Best transactional email provider for a small SaaS? Our password resets keep landing in spam

We moved to Kestrel last year. Deliverability to Gmail went from a daily headache to a non-issue, and their support actually answers DNS questions.

Maya from Kestrel here. Glad it's working. One caveat for others: if you're on a shared IP, warm up slowly — happy to answer setup questions in this thread.

01The shift

Your next customer might never visit your homepage first.

They’ll ask a subreddit. Then Google. Then an AI assistant, to check both. By the time they reach your site, the shortlist is mostly written.

Written by people you’ve never met, in threads you may not have read — and increasingly repeated back to buyers by search engines and assistants that treat those threads as evidence.

Adding “reddit” to a search query has become a research habit of its own.

These conversations become search results. Search results become AI sources.

02The path

One conversation can travel further than you think.

A Reddit comment doesn’t stay on Reddit. It gets indexed, ranked, quoted and summarised — and it keeps shaping buying decisions for months or years after the thread goes quiet.

    A practitioner answers a question.

Someone asks for a recommendation. People with real experience answer. The most useful answer rises. That's the whole mechanism — and it's why these threads get trusted.

    The thread starts to rank.

Search engines surface discussion threads prominently for comparison and “best X” queries. The thread now meets every buyer searching the category, not just the subreddit.

    The consensus gets summarised.

AI assistants draw on community discussion and the pages that cite it. The wording changes. The opinion survives — for months, sometimes years.

    03AI answer

What's a good transactional email provider for a small SaaS?

It depends on volume and how much setup you want to own. In developer communities, a few names come up repeatedly:

Kestrel is often recommended for Gmail deliverability and responsive support on DNS setup.1

03The work

We don’t sell comments. We work on how you’re found.

Reddit is where we’re strongest. It’s also one input into a bigger system: what people find when they research you — in communities, in search, and in AI answers.

  1. 01

    Listen

Most of what matters is found, not posted.

We monitor Reddit continuously for the conversations that decide how you're perceived.

    • Your brand
    • Competitors
    • Category conversations
    • Product problems
    • Recommendation requests
    • Buying intent
    • Emerging sentiment
  2. 02

    Participate

Only where you can genuinely add something.

We find the threads where your company has something useful to say, and help say it well.

    • Useful
    • Contextual
    • Transparent
    • Disclosed when relevant

  3. 03

    Shape discovery

We work on the inputs. Nobody controls the algorithms.

Good contributions to high-intent threads can influence what people find — and what gets repeated back to them.

    • AI visibility

    • Attributed conversions

04The line

No fake people required.

What we don’t do. Ever.

  • Fake personas
  • Purchased or aged accounts
  • Invented customer stories
  • Bought upvotes
  • Vote manipulation
  • Undisclosed astroturfing
  • Spam

We work through transparent participation. When we represent a company, the affiliation is clear where it should be — a branded account, a flair, a named person who says who they work for.

The standard is simple: the strategy has to survive a moderator, a sceptical thread, and a journalist reading it a year later.

If a campaign only works when nobody knows who’s behind the account, it isn’t a strategy. It’s a liability with a posting schedule.

05Intelligence

Know what the internet is saying before it becomes a problem.

Two cases. One defensive, one offensive.

    All case studies →

    Case 01 · Reputation · B2B SaaS

A reputation problem caught before it became a search result.

A handful of users were struggling to cancel. Small, scattered, easy to dismiss — and exactly the kind of thing that compounds.

      Where it was heading

    1. 01 Signal

A few users mentioned trouble cancelling their subscription. Different threads, different subreddits, low engagement.

    2. 02 Pattern

Monitoring connected them. Same flow, same frustration, similar wording. Not noise — a pattern with a cause.

    3. 03 Escalation

We sent the client the threads, the exact language users were using, and where the conversation was starting to spread.

    4. 04 Fix

The client corrected the underlying cancellation problem in the product.

    5. 05 Response

We replied in the relevant threads, openly as the company: acknowledged the problem and explained what had changed.

    6. 06 Resolution

Some of the frustrated users later removed their negative comments on their own, once the issue was actually fixed.

No numbers here, on purpose. The point is timing: a fix shipped while the problem was still a few comments, not a search result.

    Case 02 · Acquisition · B2B SaaS

Useful answers, in the threads where buyers were deciding.

A B2B SaaS company wanted to show up where buyers compare tools — without sounding like an ad.

    1. 01

      Map

We mapped the recurring recommendation, comparison and “alternative to” threads in the category — including the ones already ranking on Google.

    2. 02

      Contribute

The team contributed from a clearly branded account: specific answers, honest trade-offs, links only when they helped the person asking.

    3. 03

      Follow through

We stayed in the threads — answering follow-ups, correcting outdated claims about the product, and flagging feature requests back to the team.

    10Questions

    The questions worth asking.

Honest answers — including the ones that mean we’re not the right fit.

    Is this Reddit astroturfing?

No. Astroturfing is pretending to be independent when you're not. We do the opposite: when we contribute on your behalf, it's from accounts identifiable as your company or clearly affiliated with it, within each subreddit's rules. A lot of the work doesn't involve posting at all.

    Do you use fake accounts?

No. No personas, no purchased or aged accounts, no sockpuppets, no vote manipulation. If a tactic would embarrass you in a screenshot, we don't use it.

Do you guarantee posts will rank on Google?

No, and nobody honestly can. We identify threads that already rank or are likely to, and make sure what's in them is accurate and useful. Rankings are the search engine's call.

    Can you guarantee ChatGPT mentions?

No. AI answers vary by model, prompt, date and user. We track how often your brand appears across a defined set of recommendation queries and work on the sources those answers tend to draw from. We report what changes. We don't promise it.

Do you work through branded accounts?

Yes, by default. Some communities respond better to a named team member than a logo; we'll recommend what fits each subreddit, and the affiliation stays clear either way.

How quickly should we expect results?

Intelligence is useful within the first weeks — you'll see what's being said straight away. Visibility builds more slowly: useful contributions have to be earned, and search and AI surfaces shift over months, not days. We set expectations for your category in the first month.

What types of companies are a good fit?

SaaS and technology companies, roughly 10 to 500 people, in categories where buyers compare options and ask peers: developer tools, infrastructure, B2B software, marketplaces. If nobody discusses your category on Reddit, we'll tell you before you spend anything.

Can you monitor Reddit without posting?

Yes. Reddit Intelligence is monitoring only: brand, competitor and category monitoring, reputation alerts and a monthly report. Plenty of teams start there.

Can you work with our existing Reddit account?

Usually. We review its history first. If it has a record that would undermine trust in a thread, we'll say so and suggest a cleaner start.

    How do you measure results?

Outcomes before activity: conversation reach, referral traffic from Reddit, search-visible threads, AI visibility across tracked queries, mention volume and sentiment, issues caught early, and attributed customers where attribution is sound. We show our working.
