HHow it works

Six systems. Your post has to pass all of them.

Reddit doesn’t remove content with one algorithm. A post meets a spam filter, the filters moderators switch on, the community’s AutoModerator, Reddit’s Safety team, the moderators themselves and its readers. The odds of staying up are the odds of getting past every one.

  1. 01

    Spam filtersilent

Reddit's site-wide spam classifier. It weighs how much it trusts your account against links and promotional patterns. You still see a filtered comment as normal.

  2. 02

    Mod-tool filterssilent

Filters Reddit builds and moderators switch on. The Reputation filter reads CQS; the Harassment filter reads tone; Crowd Control reads your standing in the community.

  3. 03

    AutoModeratorsilent

Each community's own rules: account-age and karma minimums, contributor_quality rules, banned domains, keyword lists, title formats and minimum lengths.

  4. 04

    Reddit Safety

Site-wide content policy: harassment, hate, violent speech, personal information, vote manipulation. Shows as [ Removed by Reddit ] and can bring a suspension.

  5. 05

    Moderators

People applying the sidebar rules: self-promotion, low effort, AI-written text, civility, staying on topic.

  6. 06

    Reports

Readers hit Report. Enough reports put it in front of a moderator, who usually removes it if a rule plausibly applies.

RWhat it reads

Who’s posting, where, and what it says.

Account trust
CQS, account age, karma, email verification and comment history. They drive the spam filter and the Reputation filter, and a High CQS skips many karma minimums.
The community
How strict it is, how it treats self-promotion, links and AI-written text, its likely account-age and karma minimums, and its title rules.
Your words
Link domains and tracking parameters, shorteners, promotional phrasing, calls to action, hostility, personal information, capitals, low effort and AI tells.

An estimate, not a promise. Reddit doesn’t publish how its filters work. The weights here are ours, built from Reddit’s documented safety filters and each community’s public rules, and they aren’t trained on removal data. Use the number to compare drafts and accounts, not as an exact probability.

Check after you post. Open the thread in a logged-out private window. If your comment isn’t there, it was filtered, even though it looks normal to you. More on why in Reddit’s Contributor Quality Score, explained.
